The Bage Valley Wildcats handed out some hardware before their final home game of the season this past Sunday as part of their annual award ceremony.
MOST VALUABLE PLAYER: Ryan Fletcher
The rookie Fletcher joined the Wildcats this season and immediately was an impact player both on & off the ice. His offensive ability mixed with his natural leadership & “leave it all out there” play style has made him one of the top defencemen league-wide, and an extremely strong asset for the Wildcats all season long.
ROOKIE OF THE YEAR: Aidan Bent
The 18-year-old forward from Berwick, NS put together a strong rookie season after making the jump to Junior A from the Valley Wildcats U18 program. In 51 games this season, Bent produced 15 goals, 16 assists (31 points), putting him tied for 4th in rookie-scoring league-wide.
COMMUNITY SPIRIT: Aidan Bent
The Community Spirit award is given to the player who best represents the Wildcats on a frequent basis. Bent made weekly visits to Somerset Elementary School, and was a positive influence for all students.
PLAYER’S PLAYER AWARD: Ryan Fletcher
The Player’s Player award is voted on by all players of the team.
TOP DEFENCEMAN AWARD: Ryan Fletcher
Fletcher build off a strong U18 career by stepping in and being a pillar on the back-end all season for the Wildcats. In 43 games played this season, Fletcher produced 3 goals, 16 assists (19 points), putting him second in rookie defenceman scoring league-wide.
TOP SCORER AWARD: Caleb MacDonald
In 50 games played this season split between Grand Falls & the Wildcats, MacDonald, who was acquired at the trade deadline, talied 19 goals, 25 assists (44 points). In 18 games with the Wildcats, the 19-year-old forward recorded 6 goals, 9 assists (15 points).
WILSON’S PHARMASAVE 3-STARS AWARD: Drew Lutz
Lutz was awarded the Wilson’s Pharmasave 3-stars award, which is given to the player who has been named one of the three-stars of the game the most over the course of the regular season.
FAN’S CHOICE: Corbin Votary
Votary takes home this year’s Fan’s Choice award as voted on publicly by you, the fans! The 20-year-old goaltender has been a staple in the Wildcats net since arriving in December.
UNSUNG HERO: Connor Hussey
Hussey was awarded this year’s Unsung Hero award as chosen by the coaching staff as a player with unmatched work ethic, positive attitude, & great coachability throughout the season.
SCHOLASTIC ACHIEVEMENT AWARD: Will Hartnell
Hartnell, who currently is taking engineering at Acadia University, holds an impressive GPA of 4.09.
