The Valley Junior A Wildcats have announced their Territorial Picks as part of the 2020 Maritime Hockey League entry draft. Both from the U18 Valley Wildcats, the Junior club has selected Aidan Clarke and Aidan MacLeod.
Aidan Clarke just completed his second year of U18 hockey with the Wildcats. The 17 year old defenceman was a bright spot for the U18 squad, contributing 10 goals and 16 assists from the blue line.
Valley Wildcats General Manager, Brandon Benedict, says Clarke ticks a lot of boxes on his checklist.
“Clarke is a great kid,” says Benedict. “His skating is his biggest asset; he’s so mobile.”
Clarke appeared a handful of times as an affiliated player with the Junior A Wildcats last season. Benedict notes the young defender didn’t look out of place going up against older players.
“I thought he could have played at the Junior level more than he did last year,” says Benedict, who is also Head Coach of the Junior A Wildcats.
Aidan MacLeod is a forward who just played his first season of U18 hockey with the Wildcats. Hailing from Kentville, MacLeod had a productive rookie campaign, tallying 14 goals and 14 assists.
The 16 year old attracted attention from the Major Junior level as well. He was selected in the ninth round of the QMJHL entry draft on June 6th, by the Acadie Bathurst Titan.
Benedict says MacLeod has a lot of potential as he continues to grow and develop his hockey skills.
Teams are allowed to select one or two players from their region as territorial draft picks each season. Teams that did not use one or both of those picks will receive compensation picks following rounds two and three of the draft.
The 2020 MHL Draft takes place this Saturday, June 13. The online event can be followed on social media. The first two rounds of the draft will be broadcast live on Eastlink Community TV, beginning at 10am.
